Basketball Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

Independence played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Eastmoor Academy Warriors and fell 82-53. The 76ers haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Independence still got an impressive performance from Montael Davis, who posted 19 points. The dominant performance gave Davis a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Darren White-Tyler, who put up 12 points.

Phonie Simpkins was nothing short of spectacular for Eastmoor Academy: he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Simpkins is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of King Moody, who went 7 for 11 on his way to 15 points and three steals.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Eastmoor Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-10.

Independence has already played their next contest, a 68-41 loss against South on the 7th. As for Eastmoor Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 80-39 victory against Marion-Franklin on the 7th.
