Preview: Darien Blue Wave vs. Stamford Black Knights
Darien is 2-7 against Stamford since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Darien Blue Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Stamford Black Knights at 7:00 p.m. Darien has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Darien pushed their score all the way to 69 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 70-69 to Wilton. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Tuesday (59), Darien still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, Stamford waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They enjoyed a cozy 63-46 victory over Bridgeport Central. That's two games straight that Stamford has won by exactly 17 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stamford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ejai Presley, who scored 18 points along with two steals and two blocks. Presley is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Winchester, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Darien's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-5. As for Stamford, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Darien and Stamford were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Darien came up empty-handed after a 46-45 loss. Can Darien avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
