Baseball Game Preview: Nutley Maroon Raiders vs. Montclair Mounties

The Nutley Maroon Raiders will take on the Montclair Mounties at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Nutley's win against Verona wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Maroon Raiders narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Hillbillies 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Maroon Raiders have posted since May 8, 2024.

Kennan Bilotta looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).

At the plate, Eugenio Roman was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted over his last five contests. Another player making a difference was Benjamin McNeil, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, while Montclair put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for North Bergen. The Mounties blew past the Bruins 10-0. The Mounties have beaten the Bruins the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bruins has come to flipping the script.

Nutley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Montclair, their win bumped their record up to 8-16-1.
