Basketball Recap: Cyprus Takes a Loss

Cyprus lost against Taylorsville back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cyprus Pirates fell 55-45 to the Taylorsville Warriors. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Cyprus lost, don't look at Adri Pau'u. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points and six rebounds. Those 16 points gave Pau'u a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Calee Sharp, who put up six points and five steals.

Taylorsville was led to victory by Destiny Harrison and Tessa Duke. Harrison scored 16 points and three steals, while Duke went 8 of 15 en route to 19 points and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, Duke now owns an excellent 45.5% shooting accuracy. Ruby Corona also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Cyprus' defeat dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Taylorsville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season.

Coming up, Cyprus will face off against Kearns at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Taylorsville, they will take on Granger at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Granger has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with eight straight losses, while Taylorsville will come in with three straight victories.
