League recap: Holmes races to league-leading run for Sweeny

3A Region III District 24 recap September 10, 2013

Sweeny's Hermond Holmes rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A Region III District 24 this season in his game against Jeff Davis last week. Holmes scampered for 76 yards on the play and finished with 112 on the day as his team beat the Panthers.

Stafford moved up to 346 from 562 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Spartans were able to make move up by beating Hempstead 31-14.

Columbia's dynamic duo of Jarius Kesee and Brandon Harris proved tough for Needville to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kesee threw for 101 yards and Harris had 47 yards receiving.

The Roughnecks' dynamic duo of Kesee and Harris proved to be unstoppable against the Bluejays, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Dorland Fields was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 190 yards on 23 carries as Sweeny defeated Needville. Anthany Simmons also contributed to the rushing game with 141 yards on the ground.

Fields was a passing and rushing force as Paul Kilby's team defeated Jeff Davis.

Harris was the best wideout in 3A Region III District 24 this week as Randy Lynch's team topped the Bluejays.

Kesee put up the best numbers in passing as the Roughnecks topped Needville.

Columbia was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Roughnecks triumphed over the Bluejays 33-21.
