Softball Game Preview: Weiser Wolverines vs. Fruitland Grizzlies

Weiser has gone a perfect 9-0 against Fruitland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wolverines will welcome the Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Weiser's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five games.

Weiser's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on McCall-Donnelly with a sharp 19-0 victory. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Weiser got a massive performance out of Taylor Mordhorst, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Mordhorst a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordan Stromberg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.

Mordhorst wasn't the only one making solid contact: Weiser kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Wolverines are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Fruitland came up short against La Grande on Saturday, falling 19-5. The Grizzlies have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Weiser pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fruitland, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Weiser took their win against Fruitland in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-7 score. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
