Preview: Nunamiut Amaguq vs. Fort Yukon Eagles
The Nunamiut Amaguq will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Fort Yukon Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on February 16th.
Last Saturday, Nunamiut came up short against Non Varsity Opponent and fell 56-43. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Nunamiut in their matchups with Non Varsity Opponent: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Nunamiut saw an underclassman step up: Kevin Gordon dropped a double-double on ten points and ten steals. Gordon has been hot recently, having posted five or more steals the last four times he's played. Justus Mulcahy was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Fort Yukon was able to grind out a solid victory over Holy Rosary Academy back in January, taking the game 50-39. The victory was just what Fort Yukon needed coming off of a 69-17 loss in their prior game.
Nunamiut's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Fort Yukon, their win bumped their record up to 1-2.
Everything came up roses for Nunamiut against Fort Yukon in their previous matchup back in January of 2018 as the team secured a 69-41 victory. Does Nunamiut have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fort Yukon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
