Basketball Recap: Bryson Taiulu Allen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Servite over St. John Bosco

Servite was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the St. John Bosco Braves, falling 76-50. While losing is never fun, the Friars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Braves are ranked sixth).

Servite's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Taiulu Allen, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Schutt, who posted 11 points along with five assists and five boards.

Brandon McCoy Jr was his usual excellent self, going 5 for 12 en route to 13 points in addition to six assists and four steals for St. John Bosco. That's the most assists McCoy Jr has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Christian Collins, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Servite's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for St. John Bosco, their win bumped their record up to 22-4.

Servite wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 75-34 victory against Saddleback on the 30th. St. John Bosco has also already played their next game, a 66-57 win against Mater Dei on the 1st.
