Gateway Charter and Evangelical Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Gateway Charter Griffins will face off against the Evangelical Christian Sentinels at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Evangelical Christian took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Gateway Charter, who comes in off a win.
Gateway Charter barely beat Babcock the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Gateway Charter was the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over Babcock on Tuesday. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Griffins this season.

Aidyn Jones spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Gateway Charter is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-4 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brandon Lackwood, who went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Edilson Alvarez, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Gateway Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Babcock only posted an OBP of .296.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Evangelical Christian's offense. They fell just short of North Port by a score of 1-0 on Friday.
Harrison Martin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
Evangelical Christian's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway Charter, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.
Gateway Charter might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Evangelical Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Gateway Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
