Baseball Recap: Peoria Takes a Loss

Peoria had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-12 to make it four. They lost 9-1 to the Deer Valley Skyhawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Skyhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Tuesday.

Peoria saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diego Zamora, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Deer Valley, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-8-1. The result was nothing new for the Skyhawks, who have now won eight matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

On Deer Valley's side, Gaven McDonald made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. McDonald was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Tyler Carr was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Metz, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Peoria will take on Westview at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Deer Valley, they will square off against Agua Fria at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Owls have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.21 runs per game on average), something the Skyhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
