Basketball Recap: Sierra Grande Comes Up Short on the Road Against Byers

Sierra Grande kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 66-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Byers Bulldogs. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

Sierra Grande lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jadyn Martinez, who went 8-for-16 en route to 20 points and three steals. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rolando Najera, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 23 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Sierra Grande didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-23 victory against Cheraw on the 6th. As for Byers, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-49 win against Evangel Christian Academy on the 6th.
