Baseball Game Preview: Greenfield-Central Cougars vs. Mt. Vernon Marauders

For the second straight game, Greenfield-Central will face off against Mt. Vernon. The Cougars will face off against the Marauders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Greenfield-Central took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Mt. Vernon.

Parker Rhodes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greenfield-Central is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jacob Welch was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Brady Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

With the defeat, Mt. Vernon broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-6. As for Greenfield-Central, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
