Basketball Recap: Rouse Gets the Win

Hays typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Rouse proved too difficult a challenge. They escaped with a win against the Hays Hawks by the margin of a single free throw, 72-71. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Hawks are ranked 618th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rouse's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Baldwin, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Amari Moore was another key player, putting up 18 points and four steals.

Rouse pushed their record up to 19-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Hays, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-17 record this season.

Rouse will be playing in front of their home fans against Cedar Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Rouse's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. Hays has already played their next match (against Lockhart), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
