Wendover is 0-4 against Panguitch since December of 2020 but things could change on Friday. It was another big night for Raul Valle, who posted 28 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Gonzalez, who had 15 points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Panguitch put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 54-46 win over Wayne. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Badgers are ranked 114th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Panguitch's win came from a few key players Wendover will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Remme Chappell, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bridger Chappell, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds.
Panguitch was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne only posted nine assists.
Panguitch's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Wendover, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wendover has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Panguitch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Wendover was taken down by Panguitch 83-46 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wendover was down 42-19.
