Basketball Recap: Matanzas Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from La'darien Baker and Alexander Davis

After flying high against Seabreeze on Friday, Matanzas came back down to earth. The Matanzas Pirates fell 49-37 to the Suncoast Chargers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while the Chargers are ranked 119th).

Despite the loss, Matanzas had strong showings from Alexander Davis, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards, and La'Darien Baker, who posted six points and seven rebounds. Davis is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least 12 every time he's taken the court this season.

Jamarey Harris continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Suncoast, going 8 of 13 en route to 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Konner Williams was another key player, putting up nine points.

Matanzas moved to 9-8 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Suncoast, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.

Matanzas wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-48 win against Deltona on the 20th. As for Suncoast, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-43 victory against Jupiter on the 22nd.
