The Pottsboro Cardinals will head out to take on the Whitesboro Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Pottsboro's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last seven contests.
It was a proper cat-fight when Pottsboro duked it out with Pilot Point two weeks ago. The Cardinals blew past the Bearcats 35-14. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Cardinals just coasted through the last quarter.
Zavier Brady and Carson Nix were among the main playmakers for Pottsboro as the former picked up 90 receiving yards and one score and the latter rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. Brady also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles and defending one pass.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pottsboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 198 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Whitesboro played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Pilot Point, falling 45-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Whitesboro has suffered against Pilot Point since October 4, 2019.
Although Whitesboro took the loss, they still got scores from Shayne Gabbert, Camron Howard, and Mason Scarbrough.
Whitesboro's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Pottsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Pottsboro has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Whitesboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 199.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Pottsboro against Whitesboro in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-18 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
