Basketball Recap: Buchtel Takes a Loss

After flying high against North on Thursday, Buchtel came back down to earth. The Griffins had to suffer through a 65-37 loss at the hands of the Ellet Orangemen. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Griffins, who until this matchup were averaging 27 points allowed.

Buchtel lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Myah Clark, who posted 13 points. That was a full 35.1% of Buchtel's points, marking the fourth time in a row Clark has scored more than a third of the team's points. Shaylah Jones was another key player, putting up ten points.

Ellet's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenadie Keith, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Keith is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Janiyah Carter, who shot 70% from the field on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Buchtel fell to 6-1. As for Ellet, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Buchtel wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 61-27 victory against Garfield on the 18th. As for Ellet, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-48 defeat against Cleveland Heights on the 17th.
