Baseball Game Preview: Evangelical Christian Sentinels vs. Canterbury Cougars

Evangelical Christian is 1-9 against Canterbury since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Sentinels will face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Evangelical Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Southwest Florida Christian with a sharp 11-3 win. 11 seems to be a good number for the Sentinels as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Harrison Martin tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has become a key player for Evangelical Christian: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 11-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Anthony Cabrera was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Slater Smith was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one home run and two runs.

Evangelical Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwest Florida Christian only posted an OBP of .345.

Meanwhile, Canterbury had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Blazers.

Maddux Wolff was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Evangelical Christian's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-14. As for Canterbury, their win bumped their record up to 17-9.

Evangelical Christian might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Canterbury in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Sentinels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
