Baseball Game Preview: Leadership Public Schools Richmond Pumas vs. Leadership

The Leadership Public Schools Richmond Pumas will take on Leadership at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leadership Public Schools Richmond will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Leadership Public Schools Richmond barely beat Aspire Richmond Ca. College Preparatory Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pumas put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 10-3 victory on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Pumas as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Rene Lopez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Leadership Public Schools Richmond's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Lopez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Grisby, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Brian Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Leadership Public Schools Richmond kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Leadership was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Mare Island Tech Academy, falling 10-4.

Leadership Public Schools Richmond's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Leadership, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
