After a string of three wins, the Summit Academy Bears's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were dealt a 68-33 defeat at the hands of Judge Memorial Catholic. Summit Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.
Summit Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Avery Backus, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Backus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Regan Georgeson, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Judge Memorial Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Esther Analjok, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The match was Analjok's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bella Haile, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Summit Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summit Academy will square off against Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Juan Diego Catholic has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Providence Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
