McMinn Central scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 91-80 to the Roane County Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 34th).

Aaron Layne was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 36 points and 16 rebounds for Roane County. That makes it three consecutive games in which Layne has scored at least a third of Roane County's points. Blake Herrell was another key player, going 9 for 18 en route to 23 points.

McMinn Central's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Roane County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-2 record this season.

Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Roane County has won 12 straight at home dating back to last season, while Tellico Plains won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
