Basketball Recap: The Classical Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Ben Mullenix and Ky Walker

After flying high against Mitchell last Tuesday, The Classical Academy came back down to earth. The Classical Academy Titans fell 62-55 to the Sand Creek Scorpions on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Titans of the 54-49 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Ky Walker and Ben Mullenix certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Walker dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, while Mullenix went 7 for 12 en route to 17 points. The match was Walker's third in a row with at least ten points. Burk Dorny also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Jaylen Brantley was the offensive standout of the game as he went 5 of 6 on his way to 17 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Damian Marrow was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.

The Classical Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2. As for Sand Creek, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2.

The Classical Academy has already played their next contest, a 48-39 win against Harrison on the 25th. As for Sand Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 87-45 victory against Battle Mountain on the 24th.
