Baseball Game Preview: Claymont Mustangs vs. Sandy Valley Cardinals

Claymont hasn't had much luck against Sandy Valley recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will head out to square off against the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. Sandy Valley took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Claymont, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Claymont needed a bit of extra time to put away Fairless. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Falcons. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

The team relied heavily on Ethan Fair, who earned two runs and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Claymont: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brady Fox, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Sandy Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Buckeye Trail.

Sandy Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Claymont, their record now sits at 6-7.

Claymont couldn't quite finish off Sandy Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
