Football Recap: New Hanover Runs Past West Brunswick

New Hanover's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They strolled past the West Brunswick Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 24-21 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Tanahri Johnson was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 167 yards and one TD. Those 68 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tony Clark-Nelson, who rushed for 73 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: New Hanover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 229 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 89.2 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 196.7.

Although West Brunswick took the loss, they still got scores from Marzell Stanley and Israel Saunders.

New Hanover's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for West Brunswick, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4.
