Softball Recap: Turner Lions vs. The Colony Cougars
Turner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of The Colony Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on March 4th.
Grecia De La Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Turner saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Serrano, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Serrano has posted since back in February. Melissa Soto also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Turner now has a losing record of 7-8. As for The Colony, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Turner is set to square off against their familiar foe Newman Smith at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, The Colony will take on rival Wakeland at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
