Softball Recap: Dixon Comes Up Short

Dixon fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Richlands on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.

Kailei Dawsey spent all 9.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks.

Dixon is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.8 runs. As for Richlands, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Dixon is set to square off against their familiar foe White Oak at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Richlands will challenge rival West Carteret at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 2, the Patriots 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
