Softball Recap: Oneida Comes Up Short

Oneida extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 8-9. They came up short against the Wartburg Central Bulldogs, falling 11-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 12-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

Oneida saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Hailey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Brailey-Grace England also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Wartburg Central, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by nine runs or more this season.

On Wartburg Central's side, Shelby Kelly made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Kelly a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Madi Aslinger was incredible, firing off four doubles, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braylen Melton, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, Oneida will head out on the road to square off against Pickett County at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wartburg Central, they will host Jellico at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.67 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
