Baseball Recap: Guerin Catholic's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

It's playoff time, and Guerin Catholic had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Crawfordsville Athenians with a sharp 10-1 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Guerin Catholic got a great performance from Luke Gremelspacher as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Gremelspacher has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Guerin Catholic let Ian Taylor and Ben Canada run wild. Taylor went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Canada went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Guerin Catholic is 8-2 when Taylor posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Carson Kail was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Guerin Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crawfordsville only posted an OBP of .241.

The win was the seventh in a row for Guerin Catholic, bringing their record up to 17-12. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Crawfordsville, they now have a losing record of 12-13-1.

As of now, neither Guerin Catholic nor the Athenians have any future games scheduled.
