Softball Game Preview: Concordia Lutheran Crusaders vs. Houston Christian Mustangs

Concordia Lutheran is 0-3 against Houston Christian since March of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Crusaders will face off against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Concordia Lutheran will be strutting in after a win while Houston Christian will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Thursday, Concordia Lutheran was able to grind out a solid victory over Kinkaid, taking the game 9-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Crusaders.

Faith Keiper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Domino, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. Calysta Hardy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, while it was Houston Christian who put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, it was Episcopal who put up more. The Mustangs lost 14-3 to the Knights.

Houston Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yazmine Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Houston Christian's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Concordia Lutheran, their record now sits at 9-7-1.

Concordia Lutheran suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Houston Christian in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Crusaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
