Recap: Garden County Eagles vs. South Platte Blue Knights
The Garden County Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 57-31 loss at the hands of South Platte. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Garden County has suffered against South Platte since January 28, 2021.
When it comes to explaining why Garden County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Payton Fornander. Despite the final result, she scored ten points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kirstyn Beberniss, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Platte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Cheleen, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Isabelle Reichman was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with four steals.
Garden County's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for South Platte, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Garden County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Creek Valley at 4:00 p.m. on January 26th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Creek Valley is ranked 257th, while Garden County is ranked 239th). As for South Platte, they will face off against Wilcox-Hildreth at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
