Softball Game Preview: Pebble Hills Spartans vs. Montwood Rams

Pebble Hills is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Montwood Rams at 6:30 p.m.

Last Friday, Pebble Hills didn't have quite enough to beat El Dorado and fell 10-9.

Meanwhile, Montwood entered their tilt with Eastlake on Tuesday with ten consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with 11. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Falcons a 6-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Not much got past Pia Velez, who gave up just two hits to keep Eastlake off the board. That's the fewest hits Velez has allowed over her last nine contests.

On the hitting side, Nevaeh Heredia was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Jaeda Quinones was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Montwood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in six consecutive matches.

Montwood's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Pebble Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.

Pebble Hills might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Montwood when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Pebble Hills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
