Preview: Hurricane Redskins vs. South Charleston Black Eagles

Hurricane is on a three-game streak of home losses, South Charleston a six-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Hurricane Redskins will take on the South Charleston Black Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 80-50, which was the final score in Hurricane's tilt against Spring Valley on Thursday. Hurricane has not had much luck with Spring Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Despite the loss, Hurricane got a solid performance out of Alexandra Anderson, who scored 20 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Rylyn Bielinski, who scored five points along with five steals.

Meanwhile, South Charleston was beaten by Nitro 75-37 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, South Charleston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Nitro is ranked tenth).

Hurricane has not been sharp recently as the team has lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for South Charleston, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Hurricane came up short against South Charleston in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 67-60. Thankfully for Hurricane, Mya Toombs (who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
