Softball Recap: Penn Yan Academy Mustangs vs. Wayne Eagles
Penn Yan Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They came up short against the Wayne Eagles, falling 25-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-1 on Friday.
As for Wayne, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
For Wayne's part, Myia Eskander made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Eskander has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Wayne got a massive performance out of Jessy Newmyer, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Newmyer also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Zoe Eaton was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
Coming up, Penn Yan Academy will head out on the road to face off against Dundee/Bradford Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wayne, they will be playing at home against Waterloo at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
