Atascocita has gone a perfect 10-0 against King recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Eagles will head out to take on the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Atascocita has three straight wins, King has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Atascocita took on Channelview on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Falcons 9-1. Considering the Eagles have won ten contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Abigail Ruiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Atascocita got a massive performance out of Cailynn Ruzick, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Ruzick has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Marigny Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Atascocita hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, King came up short against Humble on Tuesday, falling 14-5.
Malayah Goodman and Haley Jones stepped up to the plate in a big way. Goodman went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Jones went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Atascocita's victory bumped their record up to 16-7. As for King, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-22.
King's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Atascocita hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. It's a different story for King, though, as they've only averaged .214. Will they be able to contain Atascocita's hitters?
Atascocita got the 'W' in their previous meeting on March 3rd against King by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
