Preview: Alexander Bulldogs vs. United South Panthers
The Alexander Bulldogs will be playing at home against the United South Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, everything went Alexander's way against Laredo LBJ as Alexander made off with a 47-27 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Alexander.
Alexander haved a senior duo take command as Gael Rodriguez rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry and Javi Jimenez threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. Rodriguez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Ivan Pina was another key contributor, picking up 67 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
United South can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They took down Del Rio 32-16. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but United South was the (much) better team in the second half.
Carlos Segovia was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 46 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Joaquin Montemayor, who gained 102 total yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Alexander to 4-3 and United South to 2-5.
Alexander was able to grind out a solid win over United South in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, winning 20-13. Does Alexander have another victory up their sleeve, or will United South turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
