Recap: Lyman Memorial Bulldogs vs. Norwich Free Academy Wildcats
It was a good run, but the Lyman Memorial Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a serious blow against Norwich Free Academy, falling 71-36. Lyman Memorial found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 19 fewer assists than your opponent.
Lyman Memorial's loss came despite strong showings from Jenny Lopez and Phoebe Carpenter. Lopez scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Carpenter almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Lopez is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Piaseczny, who scored four points.
Norwich Free Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Emily Orcutt out in front who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Bay-kent, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Lyman Memorial's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Norwich Free Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Lyman Memorial will head out on the road to take on Westbrook at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Westbrook is coming into the contest with seven straight wins at home, meaning Lyman Memorial will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. Norwich Free Academy will take on New London at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
