Basketball Recap: Mataya Hall's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Memorial over Coweta

Memorial lost against Coweta back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Memorial Chargers fell 52-41 to the Coweta Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Tigers are ranked 23rd).

Memorial's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mataya Hall, who posted 14 points and six boards. That was a full 34.1% of Memorial's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zakhia Germany, who earned six points and six rebounds.

Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Coweta, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Memorial wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 36-29 loss against Wagoner on the 1st. As for Coweta, they have also already played their next contest, a 62-45 win against Pryor on the 4th.
