Softball Recap: Fitch Takes Down Ranked Waterford

Fitch faced Waterford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Falcons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Lancers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted against the Lancers since May 12, 2022.

Hailey Merrill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Katie MacPherson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Kenna Campbell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Fitch's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Waterford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-4.

As of now, neither Fitch nor the Lancers have any future games scheduled.
