Football Recap: McLane Highlanders vs. Mendota Aztecs

McLane won the last time they faced Mendota, and things went their way on Friday too. The McLane Highlanders blew past the Mendota Aztecs, posting a 48-21 win on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Highlanders.

Noah Zamora went supernova for McLane, throwing for 321 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown. A healthy portion of that aerial production (84 yards to be exact) went to Da'Zir Newhouse, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

McLane wouldn't let Mendota keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force four fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Newhouse, Demetrius Simon, and Sergio Jacuinde picked up one apiece. That's the most total yards Newhouse has posted since back in September of 2023.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, McLane was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 469 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mendota only gained 289.

McLane's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Mendota, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

McLane will be defending their home-field for the first time this season they go up against Santa Maria at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games. As for Mendota, they will venture away from home to challenge Orange Cove at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
