Basketball Recap: Makenzie Michael's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rocky River over Butler

After flying high against East Mecklenburg last Monday, Rocky River came back down to earth. The Rocky River Ravens took a 53-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Butler Bulldogs on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Ravens in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost eight in a row.

Rocky River lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was MaKenzie Michael, who posted six points along with 15 rebounds and four blocks. She has been hot, having posted two or more blocks the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camille Montgomery, who put up 12 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Rocky River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests.

Rocky River's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Butler, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-2.

Rocky River does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Butler, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-44 victory against Charlotte Catholic on the 21st.
