The Guyer Wildcats will head out to take on the Coppell Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Guyer duked it out with Flower Mound on Friday. The Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Jaguars 49-7. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won four in a row.
Carter Morgan had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 176 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 41 yards and one TD. His longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Zephyr Kreye was in the mix too, providing Guyer with three scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Guyer was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 297 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Guyer's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Zane Rowe was the leader with two. Another thorn in Flower Mound's side was Caleb Fowler, who picked up a sack, made five total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.
Meanwhile, Coppell strolled past Hebron with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 37-23. Given the Cowboys' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Hawks are ranked 104th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Guyer better keep an eye on Carter Zingelmann. He was instrumental in Coppell's win, rushing for 67 yards and three TDs, while also throwing for 135 yards on nine of 17 attempts. Zingelmann is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Jayden George, who rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown.
Coppell's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Guyer, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Guyer came up short against Coppell in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 31-24. Thankfully for the Wildcats, Edward Griffin (who threw for 180 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 49 yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
