Baseball Game Preview: Benson Bobcats vs. St. Augustine Catholic Wolves

Benson is a perfect 6-0 against St. Augustine Catholic since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bobcats will face off against the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Benson barely beat Thatcher the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bobcats blew past the Eagles 10-2 on Monday. Considering the Bobcats have won seven matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine Catholic can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. Everything went their way against San Miguel as they made off with a 17-1 win. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Owen Ernle made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Augustine Catholic is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-12 otherwise. Ernle was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Gabriel Dominguez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Patrick Manriquez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

St. Augustine Catholic's record is now 4-13. As for Benson, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.

Benson took their win against St. Augustine Catholic when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 18-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
