Basketball Recap: Toccara Joyner and Kaiyah Cherry Secure Win for Northampton County

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Northampton County's strategy against Southeast Halifax on Tuesday. The Northampton County Jaguars strolled past the Southeast Halifax Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 39-25. That's more bragging rights for the Jaguars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Northampton County to victory were Kaiyah Cherry and Toccara Joyner. Cherry dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Joyner posted 12 points. Cherry has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played.

Northampton County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was A'Dariah Williams, who put up ten points. Alarrah Powell was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Northampton County's record is now 5-7. As for Southeast Halifax, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Northampton County will challenge North Edgecombe at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Edgecombe will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Northampton County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Southeast Halifax, they will square off against Roanoke Rapids at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
