Preview: Hoopa Valley Warriors vs. Ferndale Wildcats
The Hoopa Valley Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Ferndale Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Hoopa Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 66-42 loss at the hands of South Fork. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hoopa Valley in their matchups with South Fork: they've now lost eight in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Brandon Romero, who scored 11 points.
Ferndale suffered their biggest loss since December 2, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by St. Bernard's on the road and fell 75-43. While losing is never fun, Ferndale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1091st, while St. Bernard's is ranked 216th).
Hoopa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Ferndale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-9.
Hoopa Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Ferndale in their previous meeting on January 4th, but they still walked away with a 51-45 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoopa Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
