Softball Game Preview: Overton Bobcats vs. Lipscomb Academy Mustangs

The Overton Bobcats will head out to take on the Lipscomb Academy Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Overton comes in on ten and Lipscomb Academy on six.

Overton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet with a sharp 19-0 win. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Kaliyha Finley-Gray made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Talitha Winningham was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaileigh McCormick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Overton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .828. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lipscomb Academy got the win against Father Ryan on Monday by a conclusive 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Overton pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Lipscomb Academy, their record is now 13-5.
