Softball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Grand Island's Winning Streak

After a string of five wins, Grand Island's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered against the Lumberjacks since May 10, 2019.

Natalie Kopf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits.

On the hitting side, Grand Island saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kalie Farkas, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Grand Island's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for North Tonawanda, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 7-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand Island will square off against Clarence at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings are facing the Red Devils at the right time seeing as the Red Devils are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for North Tonawanda, they will head out to challenge Kenmore East at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lumberjacks will also cruise into their next match with the timing on their side: the Bulldogs will have lost eight straight heading into Friday's game.
