Preview: Cape Coral Seahawks vs. Fort Myers Green Wave
The Cape Coral Seahawks will head out on the road to face off against the Fort Myers Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Cape Coral has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Fort Myers will arrive with five straight wins.
Cape Coral pushed their score all the way to 34 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 50-34 fall against Mariner.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Dereon Thomas, who rushed for 101 yards. Thomas really tore up the turf during one magnificent 96-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivan Harvin, who threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Fort Myers never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cypress Lake 38-0 on the road. Considering Fort Myers has won four matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Chris Mcfoley was his usual excellent self, throwing for 166 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Madrid Tucker was in the mix too, providing Fort Myers with two touchdowns.
Fort Myers' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Jordan Simon and Khalil Thomas who racked up five sacks between them.
Cape Coral's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.0 points per game. As for Fort Myers, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Cape Coral has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Fort Myers struggles in that department as they've been even better at 185.3 per game. It's looking like Thursday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Cape Coral lost to Fort Myers on the road by a decisive 22-7 margin in their previous matchup back in October of 2021. Thankfully for Cape Coral, Ricardo Noel (who rushed for 210 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
