Softball Game Preview: Live Oak Eagles vs. Lutcher Bulldogs

The Live Oak Eagles will take on the Lutcher Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Live Oak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Louisiana's top teams: Dutchtown, who was ranked 14th at the time (Live Oak was ranked 19th). The Eagles fell just short of the Griffins by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Taylor MaTTingly made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Lutcher came tearing into Friday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Ascension Catholic as they made off with a 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for Lutcher, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Lutcher pushed their record up to 19-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Live Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-12.

Live Oak took their win against Lutcher when the teams last played back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 9-1 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
