Baseball Recap: Ennis Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Ennis, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They skirted past the Red Oak Hawks 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since March 6th.

Bryan Leija looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ennis is 5-1-1 when Leija allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-8-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Blaine Zhanel was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Keno Castillo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Ennis has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Red Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 13-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Ennis will square off against rival Midlothian Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.1, the Jaguars 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Red Oak is set to face off against their familiar foe Corsicana at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
