Baseball Recap: Norwalk Comes Up Short

Norwalk extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 11-7 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Columbian Tornadoes. The Truckers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tornadoes earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

As for Columbian, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-12. That ten run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Columbian's part, Blake Gaulden made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Gaulden was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jayce Arias was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Wilcox, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Norwalk will welcome Ashland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Columbian, they are taking a road trip to square off against Willard at 4:45 a.m. on Friday. The Crimson Flashes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.55 runs per game on average), something the Tornadoes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
